Importing Bookmarks

You can import existing bookmarks/favorites from your browser, or from another social bookmarking service like del.icio.us, into your Scholar Bookmarks so that you can keep all of your bookmarks in one place for easy access and easy use in your research and studies.  Just follow these simple steps below to build out your Scholar collection!

This is a two stage process. First, you export or save your bookmarks from your browser or del.icio.us account to a file. Second, you import this file into Scholar.

Step One: Save your browser bookmarks to a file

Microsoft Internet Explorer

  • Click File > Import/Export and then Next
  • Select Export Favorites. Click Next.
  • Choose the folder to export. Select "Favorites" to export all of your Favorites. Click Next.
  • Select "Export to a File or Address" and click the Browse button.
  • Choose to export your files Desktop. By default, the file will be named "bookmarks.htm". You can change it if you like.
  • Click Save, then click Next.
  • Click Finish.

Mozilla Firefox (or Netscape)

  • Click Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks (Manage Bookmarks in earlier versions of Firefox).
  • In the Bookmarks Manager window, click File > Export
  • By default the file will be named "bookmarks.html" and saved to your Desktop. You can change the name if you like.
  • Click Save.

Safari

  • Click File > Export Bookmarks
  • By default the file will be named "bookmarks.html" and saved to your Desktop. You can change the name if you like.
  • Click Save.

del.icio.us

  • Log in to your del.icio.us account
  • Click "Settings" in the upper right corner
  • Under the "Bookmarks" menu, click "export/backup"
  • Select the option you want "include my tags" and 'include my notes" 
  • Click the "export to html" button
  • Choose a location for your file (such as your desktop) and click Save 

Step Two: Import the bookmark file into Scholar

  • Log into Scholar
  • Click on Settings in the upper right of the Scholar page
  • Click on Import Bookmarks
  • Click "Browse" and select your saved bookmark file from Step One.
  • On the Tags line you can enter any tags you wish to be added to all the bookmarks you are importing
  • Choose how to handle duplicate bookmarks. If an imported bookmark already exists in your Scholar bookmarks, you can replace it with the imported bookmark or ignore the imported bookmark.
  • Click on Import

Note: If you are importing a large number of bookmarks, the import may take awhile. Please be patient as the system uploads and once it is finished, you will see the uploaded bookmarks in My Bookmarks.
