Manage My Profile

The Profile in Scholar is robust and expansive, giving you the opportunity to share as much information about yourself with other Scholar users as you would like.

Your Profile

To build your Profile, expand the My Profile panel in the right column of your Scholar Home. Click "View Full Profile" to go to your Profile page. (You can also use the Manage My Profile link on the Settings page.)

The Profile is made up of six sections:

  1. Personal Information - basic information about yourself
    • Username
    • Photo >>More on how to upload a photo (link to page)
    • Name
    • Status
    • Birthday
    • Hometown
    • Current Location
    • Time Zone
  2. Contact Information - ways to contact you
    • Email addresses
    • IM
    • Websites and Profiles in other social networking sites
  3. Interests - ideas and activities that interest you expressed as tags that you can then use to find other people with similar interests
    • "Tag yourself"; Enter a running list of your interests and Discipline interests just like you do with tags for your bookmarks
  4. Education Information
    • Associated Blackboard servers
    • Your role - either Instructor or Student/Other. If you have the role of Instructor in at least one course on one associated Blackboard server, Scholar will classify you as an Instructor
    • Highest Degree Attained
    • Educational Institutions you have attended
  5. Work Information
    • Add places you have worked and when, including location and title
  6. Network Privacy
    • Other Scholar users can see the people in your network when they are looking at your profile - if you allow them to. Use these controls to determine who can see your Network (and who cannot)

Editing Your Profile

Within each section above, click the Edit button in the top right corner of that section to make edits to or build out your Profile. When you are finished, click Save and your profile will be updated.

Profile Privacy Controls

You can control who can see your Profile on a section by section basis. For example, you can allow the Public to see your Personal Information but only your Friends see all the rest of your Profile.

Click Edit in each section to set the privacy control.

Options are:

  • Public - share with everyone that visits the Scholar site, including those without Scholar accounts that are just browsing scholar.com
  • Scholar Users Only - share only with those who have Scholar accounts
  • Friends Only - share only with the users that are in your Network as Friends
  • Private - do not share with anyone
